Basic Definition and Structure
A miniature ball valve is a small valve that uses a 90° rotation of a ball around the valve stem axis to achieve pipeline opening and closing or flow control. It is a subtype of ball valves. Its structure is compact and small, usually suitable for small-diameter (e.g., DN6-DN50) pipeline systems. Core components include:
Ball: With a circular through-hole, it is the key component for opening, closing, and controlling the medium;
Valve stem: Connects the ball and the actuator, driving the ball to rotate;
Valve body: Houses the ball and valve stem, providing a medium flow passage;
Sealing element: Such as valve seat seals (commonly using PTFE, metal, etc.), ensuring sealing when closed.
Working Principle
Open state: The ball through-hole is aligned with the pipeline axis, and the medium can flow freely;
Closed state: The ball rotates 90°, and the through-hole is perpendicular to the pipeline axis, cutting off the medium flow;
Adjustment state: Some ball valves can achieve flow adjustment by controlling the rotation angle (e.g., 15°, 30°, etc.) (requires specific structural design).
Material Selection
Brass: Corrosion-resistant, low cost, often used in water and gas pipelines (e.g., household water purifiers);
Stainless steel (304/316): Acid and alkali resistant, high-temperature resistant, suitable for chemical, food, pharmaceutical, and seawater applications;
Plastic (PVC, PP): Strong corrosion resistance, light weight, suitable for corrosive media (e.g., laboratory acid-base solutions).
Application Areas
Civil applications: Household water pipes, gas systems, water heater switches;
